AMP - A total of 150 tons of rice for Acehnese aid for hunger in the African continent, was removed from Banda Aceh to Belawan Port, North Sumatra, on Tuesday (14/6).
All will be collected with aid rice from several areas in the homeland before departing for Somalia using a humanitarian vessel of rice.
The departure took place at the Multiguna Warehousing Complex in Gampong Baet, Baitussalam Aceh Besar, attended by Aceh Besar Secretary Iskandar MSi, members of Aceh's House of Representatives (DPRA) Darwati A Gani and Aceh Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) and Banda Aceh volunteers.
"The release of the truck carrying rice aid is a special event for Aceh, as Africa's largest aid-gathering region," said Rini Wahyuni, a central ACT volunteer to reporters after the release.
According to him, 150 tons of rice is the result of a two-week fundraising by Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT) volunteers at a number of public facility locations in Aceh such as traditional markets and donations of civil servants and the private sector.
It said all the relief aid would be collected with help coming from other parts of Indonesia and would be dispatched to Somalia by humanitarian vessel of rice.
"All the rice will be brought to Belawan port due to the limited ports here, and the rice aid from Aceh will be combined with the help from Tanjung Perak, Jogja, Semarang and Surabaya, while Tanjung Priuk is combined with Jabotabek and West Java," he said.
