Manila - A total of 10 citizens who were on the ship with a hull name Brama Indonesian flag, was attacked and abducted by suspected Abu Sayyaf group. Philippine authorities called the kidnappers demanded a ransom.
As quoted by Reuters on Tuesday (03/29/2016), two Philippine military officials who declined to be named, said the militant group Abu Sayyaf demanded a ransom for the 10 citizens who were abducted.
Local officials said the ship carried 10 Indonesians were hijacked and taken hostage near the Malaysian border while sailing from Indonesia to the Philippines. The citizen had a chance to contact their employer to tell about piracy experienced, but the location where they were taken hostage is unknown.
Earlier, the State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Sutiyoso confirmed that 10 Indonesians were abducted by the Abu Sayyaf Group in the Philippines.
"Right occurred on last Saturday," said Sutiyoso told AFP on Monday (03/28/2016).
Based on the information obtained, there are 10 citizens who were on the barge. The militant group attacked the ship then continued hostage. 10 Indonesians were brought by boat to the island group allegedly attacked Sulu or Basilan.
While the barge was found to be empty by Philippine police in Tawi-tawi. The attackers had contacted Philippine authorities and demanded a ransom of Rp 15 billion.[Detik.com]
